About the Artist

CJ Hurley

CJ Hurley was educated and trained as a fine artist. His career in art began with paintings centered on social concerns with influences ranging from traditional Japanese Ukiyo-e prints, both Western and Asian religious history; and Western and Eastern goddess mythology. CJ exhibited and sold in local galleries located in the various East Coast towns he’s lived in as well as in larger galleries in New York, Los Angeles, Nashville, St. Louis and San Diego.

His current work is born out of his love of architecture, historic homes, and the great art movements that inform his work. The driving force behind CJ’s work can be summed up in the basic Arts and Crafts tenet of "the hand crafted." This gives his clients the same one-of-a-kind interior experience found only in the works of the great artists/architects like Charles Rennie Mackintosh, Victor Horta, The Brothers Greene, Josef Hoffmann and Frank Lloyd Wright.

CJ’s current work is born out of his love of architecture, historic homes, and the great art movements that inform his work.

CJ’s design work is executed by hand and he is insistent that everything in his interiors be "by the hand." He does not use the computer as a design tool and favors hand painting over stenciling. Regardless of the period he is working in, be it traditional or modern, the handcraft credo informs his work.

This site represents recent work CJ has completed. Stroll through this site and look at the details of the historically inspired hand-painted interiors; period style paintings; and the incredibly intricate gesso panels.
