The creation of mixed media paintings has been one of the most rewarding aspects of my life. I’ve witnessed everything from passionate expressions of joy, exhilaration, even tears, by people who have spent time with this work. The responses shown to these very special pieces of art has left me speechless and in awe. That I could fashion something that has such a high impact on people is near overwhelming. I am humbled by it and I cherish every response people have graciously shared with me.
Click for more infoMy mixed media work is the most esoteric and spiritual work I endeavor to do. Working with mixed media is a technically exacting process that I liken to the process of form arising out of chaos. It requires making a variety of disparate objects come together to form a seamless whole, kind of like the myriad elements of the universe coming together in a comprehensible way. It’s pure alchemy.
In this work, nature and humankind come together in interconnected harmony. The paintings are infused with an air of the poetic, the sublime, the mysterious, and the natural. Everything seems to have its place and fall into spiritual harmony. The images are elemental, vast in scope, and all parts rely on the others to create the whole. Intimate in minute detail, these paintings are a soothing, thoughtful, and meditative respite from the chaos of the world.
I have long been prone to using materials out of their original context. I’ve taken things such as paper, ceramic, various metals, and even electronic components outside of their ordinary frame of reference and combined them into art. People have said they find my mixed media paintings lyrical, that’s flattering. I think it has something to do with the way that they unite line and plane, relief and color into wholly integrated pieces of art.
